Pete Birkby

Registered Manager

Buttermere House

I started my career working in a large 52-week residential school in the beautiful Lake District in 2001, supporting young people that displayed complex and challenging behaviours. Due to my continued commitment and personal development, I soon progressed to become the Senior Care Worker where I supported 9 young people. With further progression I became a Team Leader running staff teams of up to 35 care and medical staff, being responsible for the safety and wellbeing for up to 50 young people over 7 residential on-site homes.

Subsequently to this I became the Deputy Manager of a children’s home in the historic city of Lancaster, supporting children with challenging behaviours aged between 8-18 years old. In 2014 I was promoted to Registered Manager working towards and achieving some excellent Ofsted reports including two “outstanding” gradings. In 2018 my journey took him to the Fylde Coast where I opened another extremely successful home.

I have a wealth of experience and knowledge to offer, I completed my “City and Guilds” Level 5 Diploma in Management for Residential Care in 2017 and Level 3 Caring for Children and Young People in 2005. Safer Recruitment and Designated Safeguard Lead have also been achieved.

The team and I are very much looking forward to supporting and guiding all the Children and Young People who attend Buttermere House, towards a happy and successful future, starting with their up-and-coming adventure at this fantastic provision in the scenic Morecambe Bay area.
